PRE-RAMADAN ADJUSTMENT

Nutrition assessment 1-2 months before Ramadan provides an opportunity to advise your patients with diabetes about the necessary diet modifications during Ramadan.

It may also help those patients who choose to fast for few days during the 2 preceding months to Ramadan (Rejab and Sya'aban).

Aims of Pre-Ramadan Visit

1

Modification and adjustment of the recommended nutrition plan for optimal glucose control during Ramadan.

4

Encouraging continuation of proper exercise and physical activity.

2

Designing a MNT plan that may help weight reduction for those who aim for weight loss during Ramadan.

5

Recognition of warning symptoms of dehydration, hypoglycemia and other possible acute complications.

3

Adjustment of the antihyperglycemic medications to match nutrition and fasting.

6

Enforcing the need for monitoring blood glucose and body weight during Ramadan.
